Day in the Life of a Beekeeper

Step into the fascinating world of the Ligurian honey bee with this immersive, hands-on experience. Spend a full six hours alongside one of Kangaroo Island’s expert beekeepers and discover what it truly takes to care for the world’s last remaining pure strain of Ligurian bees.

Your day begins with transport from Kingscote or Penneshaw, where you’ll head out to the apiary sites nestled in pristine bushland. Learn how hives are managed seasonally, see inside a working hive, and gain insight into bee behaviour and honey production. You’ll suit up and work alongside the beekeeper, checking brood chambers, observing queens, and understanding the delicate balance of maintaining healthy hives.

Midway through the day, enjoy a locally prepared lunch in the field, surrounded by Kangaroo Island’s unique flora and fauna. There’s time to ask questions, take photos, and soak up the atmosphere before heading out for the afternoon session.
